Visualization
In this article the key concepts are on Visualization and how we see the world. John McPhee goes crazy with details and really paints a picture of "Atlantic City" and how the streets were shaped or designed. As I read the article I was amazed with how many different similes or analogies there were. Constantly comparing one physical image he painted with his words to another even more detailed idea. McPhee also targets how the everyday person actually takes in a scene. How our eyes and brain don't origionally look at the whole picture rather we jump from one interesting sight to another. The way McPhee actually goes about describing the city in this style of small details making the bigger picture is amazing to me. He aslo shows us the contrast when he points out the interaction with or, in this case, lack of interaction from specific people. He describes how some of the things he is amazed by dont even effect several other people; how they just walk by completely oblivious to the scene.
