For my "Hometown Project" I created a four section page each touching on a different aspect of my hometown that I considered important. I chose the Location/School Districts to talk about the negative aspects of my town to start off my story. I talked about how based on where I lived I had to attend specific schools and how I had a difficult time making friends and how they build into my negative relationships. In that section I also tried to make it very personal on how I developed through that. How I was able to make even better friends after all the pain. In the "Societal" section I discussed how I was surrounded by my family and how I grew up being close to my relatives and how those memories and relationships reflected on me today. The "Safe Haven" portion was to me the most important because it talked about what I value. I discussed how my familiy has always had an open door for people who are in need, or friends who have no place else to stay. I used two specific stories to back up why I feel so strongly about helping people. Specifically one of my best friends who always had trouble with one of his parents and needed a place to stay. I used this story along with the one of my neighbor because it is personal. Telling a personal story is the best way, in my opinion, to reach out to an audience and help them see what you were seeing. The "Bike Path/ Cemetery/ Forest Preserve" section was something I decided to put in because it is a beautiful aspect of living where I do. It is an area that feels disconnected from the current busy lifestyle that we live. It an aspect of life that I don't endulge in much but when I do it is always an amazing experience. I believe that everyone should have or try to make some connection with nature. Especially those who live a busy work-filled life, and could use a bit of a discharge.
