Lack of Music"The Birds" was a very interesting and bizarre movie. It starts off as this romantic adventure but then takes a turn for the weirder when the entire town is attack by flocks of birds. As discussed in "Conversation on The Birds" there are many symbols, such as the birds for chaos and the lovebirds being representing the two main characters. However I wanted to discuss more the concept of sound and how the lack of music gives the movie a completely different feel. I didn't notice at first but the movie had almost no music throughout the entire thing. I believe the point of that was to make the squawking of the birds more evident. Even from the very beginning there are birds in almost every scene. The constant sounds or sights of birds points out how omnipresent the birds are, how they truly outnumber humans. Now the lack of music is what makes the movie horrific. During all the attacks the sounds of birds was overpowering. It drowned out the sound of people screaming at times and the attacks themselves were extremely chaotic, they were brutal and frightening but the sound of them, squawking and screaming as they attacked in frightening numbers. Normally music makes a movie more enjoyable but in "The Birds" the lack of music is what made this movie successful.
